For the gospel message to have become love and accept Jesus or you will be eternnally tormented and burned forever is alot like saying to someone marry me or I will kill you.
This has never been the good news.
We love him because he first has loved us.
Having this conversation around our kitchen table after biblestudy tonight my 9 year old said “If a person married you because you were going to kill them they may do it but never want to talk to you or have any contact with you.”
I thought to myself “Wow, how many fear of punishment alter calls have ended up so sadly in this same unfortunate way?”
He’s 9 years old and realizes that it’s not by threatening people that we get into healthy relationships with them. It’s by knowing how much God loves us that results in no other logical response but to love him back.
The message has always been God so loved the world and that he sent us Jesus not to condenm us but to save us and the response to love him back comes naturally after we have come to know how much we are loved.
The message isn’t accept Jesus as your Lord or else…
The good news message has always been to know how much God loves you and to be loved.
Now I know this takes us out from an Old Covenant mindset that says we have to do to be blessed and if we don’t we will be cursed but that is exactly what makes the New Covenant such good News!
The Good News is God Loves You, Forgives You and Still Loves You.
Be Blessed and Be Loved.
Know the Love The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit have for you.
This should be the foundation of the most life changing, healthiest, relationship we will ever have with anyone on this earth or in heaven.
This should be the beginning of our relationship with God.
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.” ~ 1st John 4:18-19
