Gabriel The Archangel appeared and gave Daniel this Message and Vison during Israel’s Babylonian captivity after their city and temple were destroyed in 586 B.C. by The Armies of Nebuchadnezzar. This prophecy is so amazingly accurate and points to Christ’s Palm Sunday (Triumphal Entry), Maundy Thursday (The Last Supper), Good Friday (The Crucifixion) and Resurrection Sunday in 30 A.D.
Starting with what The Angel spoke to Daniel in Chapter 9:23-25;
“Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed. Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision: Seventy ‘sevens’ (490 years) are decreed for your people (Israel) and your holy city (Jerusalem) to finish transgression, to put an end to sin (Their infractions of The Law), to atone for wickedness (Amends for wrongdoing), to bring in everlasting righteousness (Right Standing with God), to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place (or Most Holy One).”
As if to say they’d have 490 years until Jesus would come.
“Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem (Artaxerxes Longimanus, issued that edict in 457 B.C.) until the Anointed One (Jesus) the ruler, comes (Christ began his earthen ministry in 27 A.D.) there will be seven ‘sevens,’ (49 years) and sixty-two ‘sevens’ (434 years).”
When we add this up it amazingly comes out to be 69 of the 70 weeks or 483 of the 490 years that Gabriel prophesied.
Doing the math yourself is truly fascinating.
From the time that Artaxerxes gives the edict to rebuild the temple in 457 B.C. to the time Christ begins his earthen ministry in 27A.D. is accurately 483 years.
Now let’s get back to Daniel 9:25-26;
“It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble (See Nehemiah and the rebuilding of The Temple that Solomon built, that was destroyed in 586 B.C. by The Armies of Nebuchadnezzar). After the sixty-two ‘sevens (483 years),’ the Anointed One (Jesus) will be put to death and will be cut off (The Crucifixion 30 A.D.). The people of the ruler (Roman Emperor Vespasian 70 A.D) will come and destroy the city and the sanctuary (Jerusalem and the 2nd Temple that Nehemiah built) and the end (The end of that age, the end of temple worship, temple tax, animal sacrifice, the end of The Old Covenant and those teachers of the law) will come in like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.”
(See Matthew Chapter 23 and Jesus’s sharp rebuke to the teachers of the law, the Levitical priesthood, and the religious system that was rejecting him as The Christ).
We can also take into account The Apostle John’s Revelation Letter written to the 1st-century church while he was imprisoned on The Island of Patmos during the reign of Nero (The evil emperor who hung himself in 68 A.D.) that clearly decrees The City of Jerusalem and The Temple’s 2nd desolation by Rome just 2 years later.
Concluding here now with Daniel 9:27;
“He (Jesus) will confirm a (New) covenant with many (The Last Supper) for one ‘seven’, and in the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering (See Hebrews 10:10), And at The Temple, he (General Titus and the Roman Army in 70 A.D.) will set up an abomination that causes desolation until the end that is decreed is poured out on him (or it).” ~ Daniel 9:27
The 490 years that was prophesied to Daniel by The Angel Gabriel concludes in 33 A.D. exactly three and a half years after the death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ when Stephen, the table server became the 1st Christian martyr signifying The Levitical Priesthood’s decision to reject Christians in the same way they had rejected and Crucified Our Christ.
“Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God. At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. ~Acts 7:54-58 (33 A.D.)
Thus kicking off The Teachers of The Law’s violent persecution and opposition of The Church for the next 37 and a half years. Thirty-seven and a half years that ends up with the removal of the priesthood, the temple, the tax, the sacrifices and just about everything else that was Old Covenant. It was, in fact, The End.
Not Our End, The End of the religious system that had Crucified Jesus and had now been oppressing, arresting and killing Christians for the next 40 following years.
Thus again, The Lord from Heaven’s promise to the seven churches in Revelation, to the 1st century oppressed Christian churches “I am Coming Soon.”
Jesus’s words in Luke Chapter 21 make even clearer exactly what this “Abomination of Desolation” was… “When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its (Jerusalem’s) desolation is near.” ~ Luke 21:20
Matthew 24:15-16 clarifies Christ’s instructions to the believers in 30 A.D. on what to do when they were to see the things Jesus spoke of coming to pass. He said, “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel (Daniel 9:27) let the reader understand then, let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.”
These were the signs of the times that Jesus told his disciples to be looking for so they would all know when to take their lanterns and begin their exodus out of Jerusalem safely into the caves of the surrounding Mountains.
Let me make this clear, the “Abomination of Desolation” despite popular belief and much false teaching has nothing to do with an evil antichrist who will reign with deceptive power over the whole world in our near present future from a 3rd temple that has to be rebuilt in Jerusalem.
This is wrong Eisegesis madness and false teachings of people like John Darby being mass-produced in Scofield reference bibles in 1901 or The Late Great Earth by Hal Lindsey promoted to over 17,000,000 people on T.V. in 1975.
I suggest looking at some Matthew Henry commentary on Daniel 9.
Truth be told. There is absolutely no mention of a 3rd temple in The Bible anywhere unless you consider the New Testament words of The Apostle Paul when he said to the believers gathering in Corinth; “Don’t you know that you yourselves (Christians) are (Now) God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” ~ 1st Corinthians 3:16
There is no mention of an Anti Christ in The Bible other than the people who are not for Christ, yes, in fact, being Anti Christ.
There is no mention anywhere in The Bible of a 7-year tribulation.
Although John on the Island of Patmos did mention in Revelation that he was writing to the seven churches from amidst the tribulation they were all enduring in those years leading up to the city and the temples catastrophic doom.
Amazing revealing and awe-inspiring truths that our Bible is filled and quite wonderfully full of and yet still so many lies that actually take away from Our Good Book to still be exposed and contended with.
Most amazingly though, when we add up the years from the time Artaxerxes Longimanus, issued the edict in 457 B.C. to have the temple rebuilt to the 1st Christian Martyr of Stephen in 33 A.D. … there were in fact 490 years with Christ in the middle of that last 7 years riding into Jerusalem on a donkey being hailed as King (Palm Sunday), the confirming of His New Covenant (The Last Supper), The Crucifixion that became the end of all sacrifice (Good Friday) and The Resurrection of God’s Beloved Son, our Lord, King, Savior, and grace, our brother Jesus!
Happy Palm Sunday Everyone and hope some of this helps.
