“Thus the LORD gave Israel all the land He had sworn to give their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled in it.” – Joshua 21:43
“Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to the house of Israel had failed; everything was fulfilled.” – Joshua 21:45
All of the land promises given to Abraham and Jacob (Israel) were already fulfilled.
People pulling verses from The Law and The Prophets (Old Testament) historical past to propagate present-day violent, inhumane, needless wars are in deep need of some correct biblical teaching.
Anyone qouting from The Old Testament Prophets who were prophesying Jerusalem and their temples 1st destruction by The Babylonians between 586 and 589 B.C. and anyone qouting Jesus and The Apostles from The New Testament prophesying Jerusalem and their temples 2nd destruction between 66 and 70 A.D. by Rome in a mislead attempt to try and recreate these same horrific and barbaric events from 1950 and 2612 years ago… are sadly misinterpreting and clearly not understanding their bibles.
As well, to quote Old Testament Prophets raising flags in solidarity while trampling over innocent people with bombs, tanks, and guns is not a very Christ-like thing to do.
Many confess Jesus with their mouths, but I’m afraid their hearts are far from him.
They know neither God nor His Love and Truth.
Take note, though, that cherry-picking Bible verses out of their historical context to justify killing and taking land is nothing new. The Bible Verse “The blood of the murdered cries out to heaven for vengeance,” which was a passage in reference to Cain killing Abel, was presented by Governor Alexander Ramsey before the Minnesota State Legislature on September 9, 1862, in defense of the merciless killing of Native Dakota Indians who fought back when white Anglo-Saxon Protestants were killing and taking their land.
This bible verse was used to promote the killing of Indians.
You may ask yourself, “What on God’s Earth did Native Americans or gun-toting European Minnesota settlers have to do with Cain killing Abel?”
Good question.
Likewise, what do land promises given to Abraham and Israel that were fulfilled over 3400 years ago have to do with modern-day Jews and Arabs still killing each other?
The facts are that Israel and their temple were destroyed and were a nation no more 40 years after the Levites, with the help of Rome, had Jesus My Lord crucified in the city of Jerusalem.
40 years later (just as prophesied) by Jesus in The Olivet Discourse found in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21… Rome completed their 3 and 1/2 year (42-month) fiery siege of Jerusalem and their temple.
The Nation of Israel was no more, and any living descendants of Abraham were dispersed and displaced.
Israel and the land promises given in Genesis to Abraham and Jacob (Israel) were fulfilled in the days of Joshua, 1400 years B.C., and then came to naught in 70 A.D., after Rome’s fiery siege of the city.
For 2018 years, “The Holy Land” was then inhabited by Arabs and wasn’t recognized as the Nation of Israel again until 1948. Backed by American weaponry and militant might, European Jews after WWII (who survived Hitler’s evil attempted genocide of their people) began to migrate back to their ancient homeland and, in 1948, with guns and bombs, established what is now known to us all as Israel.
America being what it is today and Israel being as it has been since 1948 (and the 6-day war of 1967) would be just as justified, some would say to fight and protect and defend their land just as much as the North Dakota Indians or the Arabs who historically feel thier land was violently taken from them.
An attribute of Love in my book is to protect and defend, and to bring people together to protect their region, their culture, their beliefs, and their way of life… Rising together and unifying to defend their own innocent women, men, and children from invading violent aggressors….
From whatever side you are on…
I believe this to be an inherent, knee-jerk reaction and response of human love no matter what tribe, nation or tongue you were born.
What I propose today as a Minister of My Lord Jesus is that we all get our minds out of the Old Testament and Old Covenant verses that have been used throughout the ages to fan these continued flames of occupation, war, and vengeance, and begin to rest our hearts in the New Testament and New Covenant Words and Teachings of Jesus and the Apostles.
“The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” ~ John 6:63 (Jesus in 30 A.D.)
“He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death, but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life. ~ 2nd Corinthians 3:6 (The Apostle Paul in 57 A.D.)
As even King David (Israel’s continued pride) came to see 1000 years before Christ was even born!
“The Earth is the Lord’s and all who dwell in it” ~ Psalms 24:1
May all Jews, Arabs, Greeks, Romans, People of All Tribes and Nations and Tongues on Earth…
Look to Jesus, the author and perfector of Our Faith, who broke it all down for us at the Last Supper when he made it all so clear that even the simplest of children could understand.
The words of Jesus, when he said;
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” ~ John 13:34
This was Jesus, the Messiah and Redeemer of The Whole inhabited world, who was promised to come from Abraham’s line and be a Blessing to us all!
The promise of Jesus when he was told:
“And through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed!” ~ Genesis ~ 22:18
This wasn’t about the land promises already fulfilled.
This was about My King Jesus and The Kingdom of Heaven Come Here on Earth.
