Giving to get or getting to give?

“And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.” ~ Acts 20:35

There is a difference in logic that says let’s “get” all we can and a logic that say’s lets “give” as much as we can.

One that says “let us gather as much as we can and work to keep ourselves from ever going under” and another that say’s “how much of what we have right now in our hand can we possibly give away and still somehow stay afloat?”
I personally without a doubt have always been one cut from the latter fabric of logic.

It’s the whole God telling Moses to take what is in his hand (which was a stick) to lead the captives out of Egypt or when Jesus took the bread and fish and never saying “it’s not enough” seen them multiplied in the disciples hands after he had lifted them and thanked his Father in Heaven for what they had.

Working with what we have now and faithfully putting it into use for God’s Kingdom here on Earth is the way I see demonstrated for us in the scriptures in so many places. Moses and his staff, the widow and her vases, Jesus and the fish…

The bible is filled with people putting all they have into The Hands of God.

God has an amazing way of taking the little we have to offer and then increasing it in ways that would have seemed unimaginable.

Not as much as I believe this is in order for us to “get” as much as I believe it is for us to learn how much “better it is to give.”

I think this is a topic that does not get enough attention. It goes against our culture. Thanks for addressing this. Would love to see more on how to make this a daily lifestyle.

  2. Lovely post. It reinforced for me what Patricia King taught this past weekend on October 1st at the supernatural life conference about giving. When we give, God replenishes what we’ve given and we end up having more than enough. Almost all the examples you cited above are proof of this. Sometimes, I struggle with giving but I love what you said about faithfully using what we have to advance God’s kingdom here on earth. That’s our mission, after all. Thanks for sharing this…it blessed me!
